Lebanon: “Window to prevent humanitarian crisis closing rapidly”

In response to the recent escalation of violence in Lebanon, ActionAid released the following statement today:

“ActionAid is deeply concerned by the recent escalation of violence in Lebanon and condemns the devastating impact of Israeli airstrikes on Beirut today and South Lebanon in recent days, which have resulted in the tragic loss of civilian lives, reportedly including children, and left many more injured. This escalation is yet another reminder of the heavy toll that conflict continues to take on innocent civilians in the region, particularly on women and children, who often bear the brunt of these attacks.

“We urge all parties to prioritise the protection of civilians in accordance with international humanitarian law and to immediately cease hostilities. The international community must act swiftly to prevent further loss of life and ensure that international humanitarian law is upheld, including the implementation of United Nations Resolution 1701, which calls for a complete cessation of hostilities between Lebanon and Israel.

“The situation in Lebanon is dire, and the window to prevent a full-scale humanitarian crisis is closing rapidly. ActionAid urges the international community to prioritise peace and stability, and to act decisively to support the people of Lebanon at this critical time.

We remain committed to supporting our local civil society organisations partners in their efforts to respond to the immediate needs of affected communities and advocate for a peaceful resolution to this ongoing crisis.”
